Howard is widely recognized as a leading appellate lawyer, known for his precise and creative advocacy.
Howard is a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law and a partner at AGP LLP. His practice focuses on appeals and complex trials. Howard has appeared as lead counsel in over 100 appeals before the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and he has argued over half a dozen cases in the Supreme Court of Canada. At the trial level, he has successfully defended clients charged with murder, large-scale drug trafficking, and sexual assault.
Howard has been named to the exclusive Best Lawyers® list as a criminal law specialist since 2020.
Howard was an adjunct professor of law at the University of Ottawa, where he taught The Law of Evidence, and he regularly lectures at professional-education conferences. He is a former director of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association.
Howard holds a B.A.(Honours) from the University of King’s College, and he earned his law degree (Dean’s List) from Dalhousie University. He began his career as an articling student with the Toronto law firm Greenspan Humphrey Lavine. Following his call to the bar, Howard was awarded the Harold G. Fox Education Fund Scholarship, allowing him to spend a year as a pupil-barrister at the Middle Temple in London, England.
