AGP LLP is pleased to announce partners Howard Krongold, C.S., and Michael Spratt, C.S., have both been recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers in Ottawa in the area of Criminal Defence.

Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based on a rigorous peer-review survey. For more than 40 years, Best Lawyers has been regarded—by both the profession and the public—as the most credible measure of legal integrity and distinction. As such, recognition by Best Lawyers symbolizes excellence in practice.

It is an honour for our firm to have two partners to be recognized for excellence by our peers in the legal community. Membership in this exclusive group shows the depth of AGP’s trial and appellate experience in criminal defence. This is the type of excellence we bring to courts in Ottawa and across Ontario every day.

Michael is a partner at AGP LLP and is a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law. He has developed a broad-ranging criminal litigation practice and has appeared before all levels of court. He has defended cases ranging from simple assaults to large drug projects, to complex murders. He has been described as a ‘brilliant lawyer‘ in Canada’s House of Commons and he frequently appears as an expert witness before the House of Commons and the Senate, providing expert evidence on criminal-law policy and legislation. In 2018 Michael was awarded the Senate 150th Medal for “his professional expertise and experience to help craft some of the most complex pieces of Canadian policy and legislation.”

Howard is a partner at AGP LLP and is a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law. His practice focuses on criminal appeals and complex trials. Howard has argued many cases before the Supreme Court of Canada and has appeared as lead counsel in over 100 appeals before the Court of Appeal for Ontario. At the trial level, he has successfully defended clients charged with murder, large-scale drug trafficking, and sexual assault. Howard has lectured at many continuing legal education programs and has taught the Law of Evidence as adjunct faculty at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. He is a former Director of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association.
