Ottawa police officer cleared of corruption charges

A corruption charge has been dropped against a veteran Ottawa Police Service officer less than four months after it was laid

The charge against Mohamed Yusuf Mohamed, 45, was thrown out of Ottawa court at the request of the Crown attorney’s office earlier this month because there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

In an interview, Mohamed’s lawyer, Michael Spratt, said that the charge should have never been laid by the RCMP as there was simply no evidence of wrongdoing.

Spratt said Mohamed was a “good officer” who didn’t deserve to be arrested in his home in front of his family.

“This is a man who has dedicated his life to serving his community,” Spratt said. “He was a proud police officer.”
