Crown drops obstruction of justice charge against Ottawa police officer

Prosecutors have withdrawn an obstruction of justice charge against an Ottawa police officer because there was “no reasonable prospect of conviction,” his lawyer has confirmed.

While applauding the Crown for quickly ceasing prosecution, Mohamed’s lawyer, Michael Spratt, said the charge should have never been laid as there was simply no evidence to show any wrongdoing on the part of the officer.

“It’s shocking when two police forces have the time to look at this evidence … and didn’t take the time to listen to Const. Mohamed,” Spratt said in a phone interview.
